Somebody – Using any type of sexual commenting or innuendos, is a form of harassment or sexual assault
11. Have you previously experienced or witnessed sexual assault? If so, explain?
Yes, a chef I used to work with kind of made comments that were inappropriate. It was kind of like "uh ok haha" -- because you can't really say anything, because it would be brushed off as a joke.
12. What can you do, personally, to prevent sexual assault?
Everyone should learn how to defend themselves against somebody who could potentially harm them. Be aware of your surroundings, if anything seems off or suspicious be cautious or call somebody.
13. How are you made aware of the statistics of sexual assault on college campuses?
Pretty high. I know shit happens especially at night. - I've read online [the statistics], college campuses let it be known. [they spread information]
14. How do you think awareness of sexual assault should be conducted?
It should be talked about more. We're aware of it but people brush it off. That like mindset of "oh yeah it happens but we never see it" or "if I saw something I'd do something" but you just never really know. So I feel like if people were to talk about it more, they would go into action and help prevent it from happening. You know some people just don’t want to be involved, "that's not my situation." Ya know if something were to happen people should free comfortable talking about it and encouraging action to take place.

3. Have you previously experienced or witnessed any form of sexual assault?
1. Yes  2. No
4. Do you feel sexual assault is a problem in Texas State University?
1. Yes  2. No   - because of all of these frats. White males who think they have power and stuff, so they'll sexually harass women and stuff.
5. Do you believe Texas State University does a well enough job of preventing future sexual assaults?
1. Yes  2. No   3. They could do more – I've seen posters and gotten emails from counselors like if females need someone to talk to about – we have resources
9. What is your full name, major and age? Please spell names.
Music, 25
10. How would you define sexual assault?
when a girl or a male, they just feel uncomfortable tension
11. Have you previously experienced or witnessed sexual assault? If so, explain?
Not personally but I've seen it on the internet like with the #MeToo movement
12. What can you do, personally, to prevent sexual assault?
Sending more emails and just saying like if you need help or need to talk to somebody, like maybe a group where everybody comes together and just talks about it
13. How are you made aware of the problems of sexual assault on college campuses?
It happens but nobody wants to talk about it. It's an uneasy subject to talk about. It definitely needs to be talked about more
14. How do you think awareness of sexual assault should be conducted?
I think just speaking more about it and being more aware of what is going on. Talking to other people and letting them know of what’s wrong and what’s right.

1.What is your class standing here at Texas State?
1. freshman  2. sophomore  3. junior  4. senior  5. grad student
2. What gender do you most identify as?
1. Female  2. Male
3. Have you previously experienced or witnessed any form of sexual assault?
1. Yes  2. No
4. Do you feel sexual assault is a problem in Texas State University?
1. Yes  2. No
5. Do you believe Texas State University does a well enough job of preventing future sexual assaults?
1. Yes  2. No   3. They could do more 4. Hard to say because a lot of people don't speak out about it. So I think if we were to at Texas State encourage speaking out about it more, because I don't really see that a lot. I think that would help. Although that is becoming more prevalent in society like with the #MeToo movement, I definitely think that we should encourage that.
9. What is your full name, major and age? Please spell names.
English major, 20
10. How would you define sexual assault?
Obviously is like more towards rape and invasion of your body by someone else when it's not consensual. But it's not limited to just like certain types of sex. If someone is just touching you and it's not consensual – that's how I would define it.
11. Have you previously experienced or witnessed sexual assault? If so, explain?
It wasn't but it could've been. I was at a party and got really drunk and it was a party with my coworkers, who I thought I could trust, who were my friends but they kind of – they would've gone further into taking advantage of me if my friend hadn't helped me. That's my only [personal] experience with that.
12. What can you do, personally, to prevent sexual assault?
Stepping in. If something is bothering you and something is happening at a party that you're like "ok that's kinda creepy" you should step in, like you shouldn't just sit there and let it happen. That goes for girls and guys to be an ally of victims of sexual assault you need to stop it when you see it happening.
13. How are you made aware of the problems of sexual assault on college campuses?
I remember when I first started at Texas State we had like an online course about this kind of stuff, which I thought was actually pretty good. That's where I learned the statistics and how prevalent it is on college campuses. I think it's 1 in 5 women will experience sexual assault, I don't know about college campuses, but I assume that's where a good majority of sexual assaults happen for sure, in any women or man's life.
14. How do you think awareness of sexual assault should be conducted?
Like I said probably just encouraging people to speak out about instances. Definitely I think that having the online video course before you started college as a requirement was a good idea. I think that college campuses should at least do that as like a warning to young people who might experience that when they go to college.
-More to be precautious?
-Yeah like here are some instances where it’s more likely to happen and this is how you can prevent it.

Texas State sexual assault survivors talk accountability, victim blaming

By Iris Gonzalez i_g125@txstate.edu SAN MARCOS, Texas – In observation of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, various Texas State students gave their insight to the topics of sexual assault, accountability and consent in student-conducted interviews this April. Sir Isaac Newton once stated that for every action, there is an equal and opposite consequence of that action. Although this is accepted as a law of physics, one Texas State University student believes such is questionable when applied to cases of sexual assault. 21-year-old Biology junior Addison Thompson was sexually assaulted. She didn’t name names or give details, but the fact still stands that Thompson was assaulted and believes that universities are not doing enough to make sure people like her assailant face the consequences they deserve. “The people committing [sexual assault] know that they won’t be held accountable,” said Thompson. “[Universities] need to start thoroughly investigating the situation and...
