Lauren Bogard: Current Koi Queen, Future Sports Publicist

With every victory claimed and lost, Lauren Bogard is there to make her teams shine. Whether it's by sharing cool pictures on the Spurs' Instagram or guiding the information flow of the Cowboys' post-game press conference, Lauren's on it like a throne.

Or at least, that's how she hopes to be in the future.

Born and raised in her hometown of Irving, Texas, 20-year-old Lauren Bogard has always been on the go and surrounded by sports. Growing up in a home filled with dogs, children and sports fans, Lauren was naturally drawn to the world of sports, spending her high school days rooting for her school football team as a member of the cheer squad. Of course, she didn't just spend her time on the sidelines; Lauren dabbled with basketball and football in her free time.

Currently, this early fascination with sports turned into a true career path for Lauren, as she is now a junior majoring in Public Relations at Texas State University with a minor in sports psychology. Although her initial plan was to become a sports agent, Lauren realized that her interest was not so much in the tedium of sports law as it was in "being hands-on with the whole thing," she says.

When Lauren is not bustling with school work, she is working as a hostess at Wok and Roll in San Marcos. "I really like working there because everybody's so tight-knit and easygoing," Lauren says, "working at Wok and Roll is super laid-back." Outside of watching the restaurant's koi fish swim up to guests at her work, Lauren also enjoys staying active and, like many college students, watching Netflix shows like Stranger Things and Black Mirror.

Texas State sexual assault survivors talk accountability, victim blaming

By Iris Gonzalez i_g125@txstate.edu SAN MARCOS, Texas – In observation of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, various Texas State students gave their insight to the topics of sexual assault, accountability and consent in student-conducted interviews this April. Sir Isaac Newton once stated that for every action, there is an equal and opposite consequence of that action. Although this is accepted as a law of physics, one Texas State University student believes such is questionable when applied to cases of sexual assault. 21-year-old Biology junior Addison Thompson was sexually assaulted. She didn’t name names or give details, but the fact still stands that Thompson was assaulted and believes that universities are not doing enough to make sure people like her assailant face the consequences they deserve. “The people committing [sexual assault] know that they won’t be held accountable,” said Thompson. “[Universities] need to start thoroughly investigating the situation and...
